Board and Batten
Board and batten exteriors are robust and cost-efficient. Since this siding option can easily be assembled and was inexpensive, people in South America used them for barns and garden sheds. That is the reason this siding style is also called barn-siding. This design originally used strips of wood on wide boards, creating a layered pattern. The strips are called “battens” and are commonly one and a half-inch wide. Boards, on the other hand, are usually one foot wide. Although people are still using wood, board and batten can also be of metal, vinyl, or fibreglass.
The reason for the popularity is the durability that comes with this design. Board and batten siding not only add aesthetic value to your home, but it lasts longer. It is also easier to repair since the sidings comprise individual pieces compared to large sheets.
You should choose material while taking different factors into account. If you live in states with termite risk, the wooden siding will not be suitable for you. The perfect substitute for wood would be steel and fiber cement (like James Hardie) since they can be styled to look like wood. They are incredibly long-lasting, safe, and versatile.
